Welcome to Kala Tharp's Gallery of Art.
Award winning artist Kala Tharp is a native of Malaysia and Singapore. Although the subject of her work varies from time to time, it almost always involves vibrant colors and textures. Kala's creative skills have always driven her, as has her inspiration from nature's beauty and color. This led Kala to pursue art. She paints what she sees and feels. A painting is only complete when the sight of the image gives her the right vibrations.
Kala sees beauty in everything. She expresses her vision in all categories of art from contemporary to realistic.

About the Artist
Kala Tharp is an award-winning artist.
Born in Malaysia, raised in Singapore, and educated in Australia, Kala's deep interest in art was inspired by an appreciation of natures beauty and vibrancy. Innately creative and artistic, Kala soon found painting to be an ideal canvas for expressing emotion through color and light.
"I feel that my paintings are complete only when the sight of the painting gives me the right vibration. I have to feel the vibration and it is a really good feeling when I can say a painting is finished."
Predominantly self-taught, Kala has studied impressionism techniques extensively with accomplished artists to include John Phoon, Susan Sarback, Susan Hecht, and Bob Rankin. Working in oils and acrylics for the past 25 years, Kala is now exploring watercolor, a medium more accommodating to her extensive travel schedule.
Kala's broad portfolio includes luminous landscapes, emotive abstracts, tranquil still life, and engaging creatures. Her artwork resonates with a fluid energy that captures her genuine delight in the world around her.
Kala began exhibiting her paintings in the corporate offices of her family company, the Van Tharp Institute. VTI clients were immediately captivated by beautiful artwork. The numerous requests to buy her paintings encouraged Kala to enter art competitions. Her first foray into juried art shows awarded Kala first place for her painting. "The Path". In 2001 Kala chose to semi-retire as Vice President of VTI to devote more time to her career as a professional artist.
While VTI still serves as her primary gallery. Kala paintings can also be found in North Carolina galleries as well as in regional and national juried exhibitions. Her paintings have sold to art collectors in Switzerland, Canada, Ireland, Singapore, Malaysia and the US.
Kala lives in Cary, North Carolina with her husband Dr. Van Tharp, and their two dogs, Ari and Tiggi.
